I’m pleased to say that we were finally allowed into our classrooms today to clean out some things including your child’s desk and other items! Last week an email from our principal was sent out regarding pick up but below are the details, in brief.
On Thursday, May 28 from 9 am until 12 noon, parents only will be allowed to enter the school to pick up items, return items, and receive term 2 report cards. Pick up times are as follows :
Before you come to the school, please check around your house for library books or any books and other classroom belongings. I will have a place outside my classroom door for returned items. Library books in desks have already been returned by myself, however there is still a long list of overdue library books from our class.
When you arrive on Thursday, please use the main entrance. There will be staff around to direct traffic within the school. Thanks for your support ahead of time!
Thursday is a busy day! In the afternoon, teachers will be heading out on little parades to wave hello to students. An email from our principal was sent out today with full details. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to reach all students but we hope that you can join us somewhere along the way. Check out the email for full details.

Over the past few weeks there have been a number of new things made available to students and families. As things come in I’ve tried my best to pass along information ASAP. Since my email yesterday a couple more Youtube links have been shared with me that I thought families might enjoy.
These links have also been added to the Student Hub of the blog.

- Drawing Club with Mr. Sheehan : A new lesson is posted each weekday!
- Another Youtube link featuring EAL and FAL content is now available for students. This one is called Language 4 Vous and includes activities for self-regulation, drawing lessons, music, and more!
These links have also been added to the Student Hub of the blog.

Last week I sent out some information in regards to Hand Head Heart Connections, a daily Eastlink broadcast from 11am-12pm on Channel 10 (or 610) featuring a variety of educational content and “follow along at home” type activities. There are still some quinks to be worked out but the hope is that things will run a little more smoothly going forward. A Youtube link is now available for families who do not have Eastlink (link below). It will be updated with the same content featured on Eastlink. I was able to tune in one day and was excited to see a familiar face, Mme MacPherson our Phys. Ed. teacher! The episode I watched also featured a French read aloud and other fun things for kids. Check it out if you get a chance!
*The Hand Head Heart Connections Youtube link has also been added to the Student Hub of the blog.

There are many resources being put together to provide families with a variety of activities to help support learning at home.
Teachers were informed this morning that Eastlink will be broadcasting some Phys. Ed., Music/Art, EAL and Library content starting tomorrow, Friday, April 24th! The first broadcast will be from 11am-12pm and will feature a 30 minute Phys. Ed. class followed by 30 minutes of Music. These are “follow along at home” type activities, with very little or no equipment needed. This is still in the initial phase, but it’s believed that the DELL will hold the 11am-12pm time slot every day on Eastlink channel 10 (or 610). The content of the broadcasts will differ day to day. At this time, the broadcast is only available to Eastlink customers but they are looking into other means of making it available to everyone.
Blog links of the specialists’ teachers are updated regularly and provide activities for students in other subject areas. These links can also be found under the Student Hub of the 3X class blog.
A "Sherwood Elementary School Counselors" Google Classroom has been created by our Guidance Counselors, Ms. Watts & Mrs. MacDougall. Everyone is welcome to join. The code for this classroom can be found in the email update that was sent out April 22nd.

I hope home learning has been going well!
I wanted to send out a quick update in regards to the work that students have been submitting.
First off, I must apologize to those students who have yet to hear back from me on many of their submissions. Giving feedback to students is taking me much longer than I expected but know that I have not forgotten and I’m so impressed with what I have been receiving!
There are still a few students that have yet to “Turn In” work. I will be checking in with these families this week to ensure that this is not an issue with submitting via Google Classroom or otherwise. As I’ve mentioned, all home learning activities are choice activities. Students are encouraged to take part but it’s not required as there are no formal evaluations being done at this time. If families have decided not to part-take kindly let me know and I will make note of it. :)

This week you will notice some changes to Google Classroom. From this point forward all home learning activities will be posted to Google Classroom under Classwork. Updates will still be provided when needed but emails will not be sent out to inform parents of new activities each time they are added. Suggested activities will be posted daily (8 am) throughout the week. When possible, I will post activities in advance with no more than a week’s worth of activities being provided at a time. This will be to allow families to work at their own pace.
The following information pertains to Google Classroom:
It is suggested that primary students (K-3) do 45 minutes of home learning daily (30 minutes of literacy and 15 minutes of math). Please keep in mind that your family takes priority during this unprecedented time. Over the coming weeks, I will be providing material for home learning, do what you can, when you can but above all do what works best for you and your family.
Lastly, if you are having trouble opening attachments found on Google Classroom please let me know. If there is an issue, it’s likely that others are experiencing the same thing and/or that I am unaware there is a problem that needs to be fixed. I’m still learning all the ins and outs too! :)

In the spirit of easing into things, I thought maybe it would be nice to get better acquainted with the revamped 3X class blog. Links and other information have been added to the Student and Parent Hubs on the blog. Please take some time to have a look!
One resource in particular that I would like to make note of is Je lis, je lis, littératie! Login information for your child’s account will be emailed to parents separately. More information about this resource and how to access it can be found in the Student Hub on the blog.
As French immersion students, it’s important that your child stay connected with the language. When possible, please expose your child to French.
Other Suggested Activities :
The students enjoy listening to Kids United on YouTube. For those not familiar, it is a group of singers who, despite their name being in English, sing in French. They have lots of great songs for your child to enjoy!
Viewing movies in French, especially ones that your child is familiar with, is another way to expose your child to the language. Many DVDs/Bluray allow for the language to be set to French. Netflix Kids has this option for many of the movies and series they offer, as well as, Disney+ and possibly others. If internet strength is an issue, shows and movies can be downloaded for viewing offline.
Please keep in mind that these are suggested activities. They are not meant to put pressure on you, but rather provide you with some variety and options for learning at home. We all enjoy learning in different ways, home learning offers us this flexibility!
Finally, I have posted an announcement for students to the stream on Google Classroom. You and your child will see it once logged onto your child’s account. I wanted to offer students a chance to connect with their classmates. Unlike the assignment posted Monday, all students will be able to see posts made by their classmates. Check it out on Google Classroom!

As I mentioned to many of you on the phone last week, I will continue to use the blog to update parents on home learning. Mass email will be used to inform you of these updates to the blog. Students will be using Google Classroom, where possible, for learning at home.
The blog is being updated with new Home Learning and Parent Hub pages. The Home Learning page has become the new “homepage” for the blog while the Parent Hub page will provide links and tips that parents may find useful for learning at home.
This week’s assignment:
To start us off, an assignment for students has been added to Google Classroom. The goal of this assignment is to see whether students and parents are able to login to their google account and access Google Classroom from home. More details about this week’s assignment can be found in your child’s Google Classroom account.
As we transition into a new phase of learning for us all, it’s important that we be patient with ourselves and each other. We are all still adjusting to our new routines and, unfortunately, it is bound to present us with some challenges. I am here to support you as best I can!
